Winter is all about woolly sweaters, jeans and skirts with opaque tights; anything to cover up my entire body (I hate being cold). Come June, much like a (less beautiful) sunflower, I grow a little in the direction of the sun and shake off those layers. Now is the time for t-shirts, skirts and drum roll… bare legs (after a good de-fuzz, obvs)
This season I’m more than a little pleased with the selection of skirts to be had on the high street. I’m talking florals, metallics, gingham and stripes in all manner of cuts from maxis to minis, sleek pencils to floaty wraps. Oh it’s a veritable smorgasbord of skirty delights!
ashling wears: & Other Stories sunglasses (similar here); Zoe Karssen tee (similar here); Finery Miniver midi skirt, £109; Zadig & Voltaire Boxy XL zip bag, WAS £240, NOW £144; & Other Stories heels (similar here).
The maxi still reigns thanks to glorious appearances on the runways at Dior, Tory Burch and Alberta Feretti, but the midi, a firm favourite last season, is still very much in favour (especially in my wardrobe with zebra print making its debut). However, there’s a new kid on the block with a whole lot of personality: the ruffled skirt.
With a distinct nod to the ’80s, this feminine style is popping up all over Insta and in your favourite local stores. Look out for slim line pencil fits that flare at the hem or opt for the very summery wrap – J.Crew has nailed this look – and simply pair with anything from a graphic tee to a button-up shirt. Job done.
