Maybe it’s because I’m seven months pregnant, but this year I’m completely embracing winter. I’m already lighting a fire every evening; batch-cooking casseroles and stockpiling cashmere socks, scarves and sheepskin cushions as I prepare to fully hibernate, only to emerge from my cocoon in spring with a new baby (and hopefully, less cushion-like body weight).
Luckily for me, this year’s big interior trend totally taps into my nesting instinct. Building on last year’s homes obsession with Danish ‘hygge’ (which loosely translates to cosiness in English) the minimalist Scandinavian vibe ‘Lagom’ is next on the home style list. Essentially it’s a ‘less is more’ frugal philosophy with a focus on simplicity and sustainability – Swedish furniture store IKEA has even created its own project ‘Live Lagom‘ to teach people how to make life more sustainable.
Interiors-wise the ‘Lagom’ colour scheme is calm; think soft neutrals in a palette of frosty whites, ash blacks, mocha and pearl greys. There’s also a focus on ‘outside-in’ resourcefulness – filling your home with natural materials like woods, willows and wickers as well as loved-but-luxe fabrics like sumptuous sheepskins, tactile chunky cable-knits and angora throws that will last forever. So batten down the hatches and take a look at my edit from these 3 great online stories and I promise you’ll be ready for whatever that cruel mistress Winter may throw at you!
