3 shop drop: long sleeved party dresses

It’s been a very long time since I poured myself into a skimpy party dress. And if I’m perfectly honest it’s not a feat I miss. I’ve eaten way too many Celebrations and it’s cold! The very thought of naked flesh against icy air leaves me quivering in my slippers. So this December, while also embracing sparkly sweaters, long metallic skirts and yes, thick thermal-tights, I’m on the hunt for dresses with actual sleeves. I’m simply a much nicer person when I’m warm…

For years the sleeved dress has been the lesser-spotted piece, but thanks to boho inspiration and… cold people, it’s becoming a much-loved party option. With over-sized earrings and heels upping the glam factor, covering up has never looked so chic. So here you have my top picks from 3 great high street stores…

1. & other stories

It never fails. Fact. My own Santa list is littered with loveliness from this gets-it-right-everytime store. From little black dresses to toasty velvet styles, you’ll find long sleeves a plenty.

Metallic stripes frill dress, £79 – BUY!

Velvet wrap dress, £79 – BUY!

Frill hem dress, £69 – BUY!

2. reiss

For the more sophisticated, Reiss does very good office party chic, but I also found these slightly more laid-back numbers that would look just as good with a pair of trainers.

Aubrey snake-print devoré dress, £250 – BUY!

Lotta leopard print dress, £165 – BUY!

Rosalind knitted metallic dress, £170 – BUY!

3. warehouse

I used to shop here a lot in the noughties while navigating through my career on mags with pretty much no money – it was affordable and fun. And then I forgot about it… as you do. Until it had an update, a refresh, if you like, and I’m back in the changing rooms. It’s still affordable, but now it’s grown up.

Soft jacquard asymmetric dress, £69 – BUY!

Pleat and lace dress, £89 – BUY!

3D embroidered mesh dress, £99 – BUY!
