3 style: one trench coat three ways

If there’s one coat designers are making a big deal over this season, it’s got to be the trench coat. At Bottega Venetta, Lauren Hutton took to the catwalk to reprise her role and look from the 1980 film, American Gigolo. In that moment, the show-goers knew the trench would be the SS17 cover-up.

Much like the biker jacket, the trench has gloriously evolved from a practical piece (it was worn by officers in the Boer War and the WW1) to a thing of beauty. Search trench coat on Pinterest and it’s like a who’s who of style icons rocking the sleek beige number. We’re talking Victoria Beckham, Audrey Hepburn, Alexa Chung. You get the picture.

So this month #teamtriplemelt are styling it up our way…

A trench coat is a must-have in my wardrobe: always loved them, always will. I’d describe my style as classic and so I teamed this fab Gap one with my favourite blue jeans and a simple blue shirt with ruffles for a seasonal twist. Red lips elevate any outfit, but I love that with a trench they instantly bring a bit of Parisian chic. (Shame I’m just hanging out in my drive)

    Next blue ruffle shirt, £28
    J.Crew Toothpick jeans, £62
Dune stud detail lace-up shoes, WAS £75, NOW £22

This is the perfect ‘smarten-up-any-outfit’ piece. My look is pretty casual on a day-to-day basis, but a good trench coat – like a bold lippie – just adds instant chic. Even boyfriend jeans look smarter and admittedly I’m very partial to a midi skirt, sweater and trainers with a trench. Genuinely, this is the go-with-everything item I couldn’t live without (extreme, but true).

    hush boyfriend jeans, £75
Zara city bag with scarf, £29.99                                                                                                & Other Stories suede heels, £69

The classic trench is always an item I’ve admired from afar, yet never actually incorporated into my own wardrobe. Being a little curvier than the girls, I chose to button back the double breasted front, reducing the ‘volume’ of fabric on show and accentuating the turned up collar. A scarf helped to break up the beige – a chic neutral, but not my best colour – whilst the leopard courts gave a little element of fun and glamour. All in all: love. Definitely one for my new post bubba wardrobe overhaul.
