“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” said Anne of Green Gables and I wholeheartedly agree. I love the short days, the misty breath in the mornings, the pampering opportunities hibernating presents and, of course, curling up with a book in front of an open fire in the evenings. Like Ashling, I’m also knitwear obsessed (check out her fab 3 shop edit of cosy knits). But we’re not in winter yet, Dorothy, so I’m aiming for a hint of glamour this Autumn – an attempt to maintain some semblance of style before I surrender to the inevitable pregnancy pj’s and lycra uniform that I’ll be sporting come winter.
This pregnancy I’ve stuck (where possible!) to non-maternity clothes, but now it’s Autumn I’m struggling. Cover-ups are a proble. I don’t want to buy a maternity coat I’ll only wear for 3 months, so coatigans that are chic, easy throw ons with no buttons or zips (my enemies right now!) are perfect over the bump. Also I’m injecting plenty of this season’s colour orangey-red to keep me looking and feeling bright for as long as possible. And I think it maybe it’s time to invest in some dungarees….
Beauty, for me, tends to mean make-up rather than skincare but pregnancy has changed that. I’ve hit the ‘disturbed sleep’ bit of the experience waking up at 4-5am most mornings and so I know i need a bit of help to look glow-y rather than grey with fatigue. A bright burst of red-y, orange lips are always my go to when tired (it detracts from the eye bags) but this oil from Aurelia and sleep products from Bloom a& Blossom are exactly what I need.
There are so many amazing books to choose from this Autumn, none more so than the long-awaited new releases from Pulitzer prize-winning author of A Visit From the Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan, closely followed by YA author John Green’s next release after his best-selling smash hit The Fault in Our Stars. And my autumn wouldn’t be complete without a browse through this interiors book by the women behind Rockett St George.
