Anyone got the dread? The ‘must-I-get-my-body-out-in-public’ fear? Yep, us too! But we’re in luck: not only is the one-piece swimsuit cooler than cool right now, it also serves as the perfect tummy concealer. This little number has shaken off its dowdy associations, making a welcome – and somewhat sexy – return.
Yes, you can’t beat a bikini for that all-over tan, but after Taylor posted a pic of herself – and model pals, Cara and Gigi – in matching red, white and blue swimsuits from Solid & Striped, the world went mad for the one-piece. With the likes of Kylie and Rita Ora getting in on the the monokini action too, it’s currently taking over on the pages of our favourite glossy mags.
A couple of weeks ago Ali jetted off to Ibiza with the lurking prospect of celebrating a 40th with a group of relative unknowns. Knowing she’d be unable to face a bikini for the first couple of days, she bought the best-selling Boden Santorini swimsuit as a reassuring back-up. Instead, this figure-flattering buy became her number one go-to for the holiday.
While I am no twenty-something poplet and have two kids in the bank (and the body to prove it), I too am feeling pretty joyous about the cossie’s current fashion status. For the first time in possibly 25 years *gasps*, I wore one. To be more specific, I purchased Finery’s Ginny printed one-piece (see below) and I felt anything but frumpy. I’m not going to lie, it didn’t transform me into Gigi –obvs! (in my husband’s dreams!!). It did, however, hold me in and lift me up in the right places – including my own body image.
So ditch your tainted memories of saggy bottoms and C&A-style prints. Be proud of your body. Discover swimwear that’s cut better, shaped beautifully and crazy stylish. Don’t scrimp on the cost either; if you find one that shows off your figure in the best light, the poolside fear will soon be a thing of the past…
