how to minimise skin redness & rosacea

Skincare-redness opener
My skincare warriors

If you were to ask me which one thing I would change about my physical appearance, the answer – without a millisecond of hesitation – would be to banish my forever flushed cheeks. Since my teen years I have suffered with Rosacea: a persistent condition that essentially means my blood vessels enlarge, thus ‘flushing’ my skin. On paper that doesn’t sound too awful, but believe me when I say that it is. Less NARS-Orgasm-post-coital-glow and more smacked-in-the-face-seriously-sunburned-panda.

In a world of even skin tones, my rosy red cheeks get me down. Exacerbated by alcohol, stress, physical activity, spicy food, changing temperatures and just about every other unavoidable modern day trigger, I’m super self-conscious of my ruddy complexion. The kicker? It’s really hard to treat and invariably returns.

And so, with no real cure (although watch this space as I’m considering a course of laser sessions) and an aversion to living life like a hermit, I’ve learned to soothe, disguise and fight my flush with an army of skin redness warriors – and believe me when I say they’re worth the investment:

3 skin redness reducers

1. Algenist Reveal GREEN Concentrated Color Correcting Drops (£30 for 15ml)

Algenist Reveal Concentrated Color Correcting Drops 1

Such a nifty little product that I discovered during a Space.NK session. Simply pipette a few drops into your moisturiser or foundation or apply direct to skin in between the two. Don’t be put off by the colour – green is redness’ nemesis!

2. Darphin Intral Cleansing Milk (£28 for 200ml)

Divine smell aside (a scent I can only describe as ‘marshmallowy’), the Intral range contains a ‘Calm Complex’ of camomile, aloe vera, hawthorn and watermelon that soothes & evens skin tone whilst the formula efficiently removes makeup.

3. REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream (£28 for 50ml)

REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream

REN claim that this cream trains skin to be less sensitive and I agree. The best thing about this formula though is how it feels – my skin is enveloped, protected & softened without being suffocated.
