how to turn your shower into a spa

Spa in the shower products

I wish I was one of those women who spent Sunday nights in their silk pyjamas after an all-over body exfoliation, lovingly giving themselves a facial followed by a full mani-pedi. But frankly, I don’t have the time or – since having kids – the inclination. Relaxing in a hot candlelit bath isn’t the relaxing indulgence it once was when you have to remove 77 plastic toys before you sit down, only to have Sailor Matey staring at you during your soak. That’s why my morning shower has become my spa. Here are the 3 products I take in with me to make me feel like I’ve been to one:

1. Nivea in-shower body moisturiser, £2.29
Luxury body lotions tend to gather dust at the side of my bath whilst my skin gathers dry patches. I’m in too much of a rush for the school run to moisturise in the morning and at night, I’d rather spend my time watching The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix in bed. Enter this fab in-shower body moisturiser: it doesn’t have fancy packaging or smell like holidays, but at £2.29 the money I save can be put towards one and it makes my skin feel as soft and rehydrated as any luxury brand.

2. Rimmel Sun Shimmer in shower self tan, £9.99

After a string of streaky mistakes I decided years ago that I’m just too impatient to self-tan well. So when Robyn introduced me to Rimmel’s in-shower Sun Shimmer, I was (wrongly) apprehensive. You simply shower as normal, carefully apply the tan to wet skin (the more you apply the deeper the tan) and then wash off. The result? A sun-kissed, even glow that friends thought was entirely natural. Looks like this sloppy self-tanner has finally found her fake tan fix!

3. Julien Farel Vitamin Restore protein treatment for Normal or Fine Hair, £36
I get my hair cut about once a year (ok, twice since having it cut into a bob) and I’ve only ever had a hair treatment once as part of my wedding prep (see husband, I am low maintenance!) So when Robyn gave me this product to try by respected New York hairdresser Julian Farel and described it as an all in one anti-age formula that’s like skincare for your hair and scalp, I had to try it. It shampoos, conditions and treats hair in one wash (perfect for time-poor pamperers like me) and made my hair unbelievably soft and shiny. I now use it once a week – alongside my normal Redken shampoo and conditioner routine.
