the summer trend that’s here to stay

With October just around the corner, summer is already a hazy, sun-kissed memory. Shorts, kaftans and sandals are being packed away with cosy knits comfortably taking their place. But there’s one piece that’s not going any time soon: the floral dress. Yes, the colder months will bring various iterations of this floaty holiday must-have, but the feel is still the same – whimsical, bohemian and effortless.

As I explored the streets of Puglia and soaked up the sunshine in Corfu, the floral dress was my fashion go-to. It was a simple throw-on; a touch of retro glamour – I blame reading The Invitation (check out Ali’s review) – a novel set on the Italian Riviera in the 1950s (I was born in the wrong era – I’m sure of it!) As the sun shone, my dresses were warm, lit with yellow blossoms and paired with simple basket-style accessories. For Autumn I want the same laid-back look, but this time taking inspiration from the new season collections for Delpozo, Ralph Lauren, Gucci and Erdem, all of whom added a touch of darkness and moody styling to their floral dresses (not to mention a bit inspiration from of nan’s curtains).

As I type my shopping list is expanding: floaty and sheer are still a must, but now I want richer colours, deeper shades and bold blooms. And believe me there’s a lot out there to choose from, so here’s an edit to save you trawling…
